Matthew Hilton - British Designer

All Chairs

Continuing research for my Theory and Context module, I have to research British Designers. Matthew Hilton has been very successful with his design career and I have found his work very interesting. He focuses mainly on furniture design and I like his approach to the chairs in the image above. I think that the different shapes added to a classic chair effectively work and the modern twist of creating a different back or having a tripod leg set up really stand out. A lot of his work is very organic and his edges are curved, I think this looks aesthetically good and effectively work.

He was elected a Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) in 2005. In 2007 Matthew launched his company Matthew Hilton Limited.
